CDS Supports Ride Africa
This year CDS are proud to be supporting local heroes Gerald and Penny Rutter as they take part in Ride Africa an exciting and challenging adventure cycling across Africa in aid of Child.org.
The ride will take place in November, when Gerald and Penny will be cycling along with 75 other cyclists for 5 days, covering 500KM from Nairobi to Meru through its gruelling conditions. The 6th day will involve them supporting the charity at one of its outreach programs.
By taking part in this event Gerald and Penny are helping to raise money for Child.org who help disadvantaged children under threat from disease, poverty, HIV/AIDS and their daily struggles, making sure more children grow up healthy safe and free to learn.
The money raised from Gerald and Penny’s efforts will help to fund projects including women’s groups, street children centres and school agriculture as well as food, health services, water, support and a safe place to be.
Gerald commented ‘This will be our second Ride Africa. The first ride in Ghana made us sit up and understand what real poverty is, and what difference just a little change can make to people’s lives. Simple things like running water in schools so students can wash their hands before they eat, reducing the amount of sickness.
What surprised us on the last trip was how happy people can be when they have so little, and when you come back home people complain about everything including the weather.’
We wish Gerald and Penny every success on completing their challenge and reaching their fundraising goal.
