CDS's Head of Coaching Sara Penter Reviews Search Inside Yourself by Chade-Meng Tan
Chade-Meng Tan was one of Google’s earliest engineers, building the company’s first mobile search service. He made the unusual move from engineering to Google’s People Development team (the first in Google’s history!). He is now cofounder and Chairman of the company’s Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI). The programme has been taught at Google since 2007 and the ideas and practices can now be found in this book. It blends the subjects of mindfulness, neuroscience and emotional intelligence and Chade-Meng Tan presents them as a set of practical and proven examples, tools and skills. He describes his approach as one that ‘compulsively pragmatic people can process.’ With forewords by Jon Kabat-Zinn and Daniel Goleman the book is grounded in interesting research, references and expertise.
