Book Review: The Obstacle is The Way, Ryan Holiday

Some of you may be familiar with our CDS Resilience Framework. A number of the elements within the framework are based on the philosophy of Stoicism – particularly the element of ACCEPTANCE – Letting go.

I have been reading The Obstacle is The Way – The Ancient Art of Turning Adversity to Advantage, by Ryan Holiday. A timely read given the numerous obstacles that have been presented to us all over the past 18 months.

The book is grounded in Stoicism – Ryan Holiday has collected, understood and summarised the ancient lessons and wisdom. He presents a method and framework  around three core pillars: Perception, Action and Will. Each area presents real strategies for understanding, appreciating and dealing with the obstacles life throws at as.

Back to the subject of ACCEPTANCE and letting go – I will leave you with a great quote from the book

‘In life our first job is this, to divide and distinguish things into two categories: externals I cannot control, but the choices I make with regard to them I do control. Where will I find good and bad? In me, in my choices. Epictetus
