Mindfulness

October 10th 2019 was World Mental Health day and I received an e-mail from Headspace entitled “Be there for You”.  The opening paragraph stated that it’s OK to ask for help and it’s OK to put your mind first.

I wonder how often we do ask for help or put our minds first? When the demands and needs of others flow in do we stop, breathe and really think about what is this best use of ‘me’ in handling the different situations/demands? Or do we create a list, get our head down and plough on?

Becoming more mindful and intentional about how we use our time and energy, feels like an even more important skill and practice at a time when we appear to need to do more with less – in all aspects of our lives.

I think this is where creating a meditation practice can help us to develop our mindfulness muscle. It can help us to

  • Reduce stress and blood pressure
  • Improve our attention
  • Make smarter decisions
  • Boost our empathy and resilience
  • Regulate our thoughts so that we are not too quick to judge

So, becoming more mindful and intentional about what we focus our time and energy on is worth thinking about since …
